How to use the Color Mixer

Mixing interpolates between the two colors channel by channel: a 50% mix is the midpoint, while 25% leans toward the first color. The blend is computed numerically rather than by overlaying pixels, so you get an exact value you can reuse, plus evenly spaced steps along the path between both colors.

  1. 1
    Choose two colors

Set color A and color B with the pickers or by pasting HEX values.

  2. 2
    Set the mix ratio

Slide toward A or B to weight the blend; the center is an even 50/50 average.

  3. 3
    Use the result

Copy the blended color, or pick one of the in-between steps to use as a transitional shade.

Frequently asked

How is the mixed color calculated?
It linearly interpolates each color channel between the two inputs by the ratio you set, then reports the result as HEX, RGB and HSL.
Why does mixing two bright colors sometimes look muddy?
Averaging in RGB can pass through a desaturated midpoint. Mixing colors that are closer in hue, or using perceptual spaces, keeps the result more vivid.
What ratio gives a true average of two colors?
A 50% mix — equal weight on both — gives the exact midpoint between them.
Can I mix more than two colors?
This tool blends two at a time, but you can chain mixes: blend two, then mix that result with a third.
